Conducted a comprehensive organizational assessment for non-profit music education organization. The Battle Creek Youth Orchestra fosters a love of music and builds friendships through quality orchestral education and performance experiences.

Provided organizational development consulting and coached strategic planning. Pfizer is the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical company.


Facilities Management Preventative Maintenance Work Plan
Developed strategic work plan enabling Washtenaw County maintenance and operations staff to work in a more planned and organized way allowing increased levels of preventative maintenance. The goal was to reduce unscheduled outages and downtime due to equipment failures and provide uninterrupted services to county residents.


Operational Review, Kalamazoo County
Line staff was blamed for high backlogs in a $2 million revenue department.  We found in our operational review that wrong and missing metrics left a 52% increase in workload virtually undetected.  The department reduced backlog by 80% by hiring temporary staff.  


Kalamazoo Criminal Justice Council (KCJC)
Mapped detailed process flow for nine criminal justice agencies.  System maps for the misdemeanor and felony processes have been recognized as "the first of their kind in the U.S." (KCJC Newsletter, January 1, 2001)


Maternal and Infant Support Services
Led interdisciplinary team of 15 Kalamazoo County human services staff in process redesign. Coached team in process mapping facilitation, data entry, and evaluation.

Facilitated strategic planning process for multi-program organization. MRC Industries encourages and supports individuals living with a disability to achieve their fullest potential through employment, skill building, and active community involvement.


CityLinC Ministries
Conducted environmental scan and strategic planning for Christian service agency. CityLinC connects Children and Youth to Loving Families, Families to Secure Futures, Individuals to Caring Community, and Community to Personal Faith.

AccessVision
Facilitated strategic planning process for Battle Creek Area Community Television. AccessVision empowers people to strengthen a sense of community, facilitate civic dialogue, and celebrate local culture by communicating through electronic media.


Child Care Resources 
Guided strategic planning process for an eight-county organization. Child Care Resources works with parents, child care providers, businesses and the community to improve access to quality child care and early education so that every child enjoys safe, nurturing and inspiring care.
 
 
Community Access Center
Conducted strategic planning process for a public access multi-media center. The Community Access Center provides access to electronic media via education, technology, and distribution resources, so that a diversity of local voices can be expressed and heard in the community.


Advocacy Services for Kids
Facilitated the creation of a strategic plan to prepare parent advocacy organization for a six-year federal grant that doubled staffing and created a countywide family support resource. Advocacy Services for Kids provides advocacy, support, and training to families raising children with special mental health needs so they better achieve their potential and become integrated members of the community.


Poverty Reduction Initiative of Kalamazoo County
Facilitated strategic planning retreat and subsequent goal development process for award-winning local initiative. The Poverty Reduction Initiative fosters collaborative and mutually accountable public-private partnerships that increase both access to and resources for individuals and families living in poverty. Community Housing Plan
Under the leadership of the Poverty Reduction Initiative (PRI), representatives from 15 non-profit and government agencies developed the Community Housing Plan: Strategies for affordable housing in Kalamazoo County.

Strategic Planning: Government

Portage 2025 Renewal Event 2008
Facilitated follow-up community visioning session to Portage 2025. Using the 2025 "toolkit" format, participants set priorities and deliberated the City Centre concept.


Kalamazoo County Strategy Review
Conducted strategy review for the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners. Currently mapping departmental services and performance indicators against strategic goals.


City of Battle Creek
Facilitated city commission planning process for developing organizational goals for the City of Battle Creek.


Portage 2025 Visioning Project
Designed and facilitated a multi-session public visioning and goal setting process for the City of Portage, Michigan.  For this project, Dams & Associates created a comprehensive planning manual. The "Visioning Toolkit" allowed participants to self-facilitate seven planning groups. Evaluation data showed that participants considered Portage 2025 an enjoyable process that allowed them to create meaningful outcomes. Kalamazoo Wraps
Providing planning and process improvement consulting for implementation of a nine million dollar federal grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA). Kalamazoo Wraps is creating a new system of care for Kalamazoo County's families.


Department of Human Services
Facilitated development of training and local/state advocacy strategies for the Kalamazoo County DHS board of directors.


Criminal Justice Collaborative Council (CJCC) Washtenaw County
With representatives from several justice agencies developed short-term integration strategies for 2006. Strategic Update report on CJCC website.

Research Reports

Integrating Justice Information Systems: An Overview of Online Resources
Developed an annotated multi-media resource for the Washtenaw County Criminal Justice Collaborative Council. This document provides extensive information on online resources for the integration of justice information systems.


Kalamazoo County Growth Plan
Researched and drafted Growth Plan report commissioned by the economic development corporation Southwest Michigan First.  The Growth Plan outlines six public sector strategies toward regional growth.  This report was instrumental in obtaining funding from private investors and local units of governmental.


Affordable Housing Data for Kalamazoo County
To support the development of the Community Housing Plan, Dams & Associates synthesized the data and findings of several existing housing studies into a single comprehensive report.
